NULL pointer derefence happens when booting with DTB because the platform data for haptic device is not set in supplied data from parent MFD device. The MFD device creates only platform data (from Device Tree) for itself, not for haptic child. The driver is a platform driver and not a I2C driver so its modalias should be exported with MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE(platform,...) instead of MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE(i2c,...).
