He writes: It seems there's no proper size check of a USB_DT_INTERFACE_ASSOCIATION descriptor. It's only checked that the size is >= 2 in usb_parse_configuration(), so find_iad() might do out-of-bounds access to intf_assoc->bInterfaceCount. And he's right, we don't check for crazy descriptors of this type very well, so resolve this problem. Yet another issue found by syzkaller... 2017-08-26netfilter: ctnetlink: make it safer when updating ct->statusLiping Zhang
commit 53b56da83d7899de375a9de153fd7f5397de85e6 upstream. After converting to use rcu for conntrack hash, one CPU may update the ct->status via ctnetlink, while another CPU may process the packets and update the ct->status. So the non-atomic operation "ct->status |= status;" via ctnetlink becomes unsafe, and this may clear the IPS_DYING_BIT bit set by another CPU unexpectedly. For example: CPU0 CPU1 ctnetlink_change_status __nf_conntrack_find_get old = ct->status nf_ct_gc_expired - nf_ct_kill - test_and_set_bit(IPS_DYING_BIT new = old | status; - ct->status = new; <-- oops, _DYING_ is cleared! Now using a series of atomic bit operation to solve the above issue. Also note, user shouldn't set IPS_TEMPLATE, IPS_SEQ_ADJUST directly, so make these two bits be unchangable too. If we set the IPS_TEMPLATE_BIT, ct will be freed by nf_ct_tmpl_free, but actually it is alloced by nf_conntrack_alloc. If we set the IPS_SEQ_ADJUST_BIT, this may cause the NULL pointer deference, as the nfct_seqadj(ct) maybe NULL. Last, add some comments to describe the logic change due to the commit a963d710f367 ("netfilter: ctnetlink: Fix regression in CTA_STATUS processing"), which makes me feel a little confusing. 2017-04-04netlink: remove mmapped netlink supportFlorian Westphal
commit d1b4c689d4130bcfd3532680b64db562300716b6 upstream. mmapped netlink has a number of unresolved issues: - TX zerocopy support had to be disabled more than a year ago via commit 4682a0358639b29cf ("netlink: Always copy on mmap TX.") because the content of the mmapped area can change after netlink attribute validation but before message processing. - RX support was implemented mainly to speed up nfqueue dumping packet payload to userspace. However, since commit ae08ce0021087a5d812d2 ("netfilter: nfnetlink_queue: zero copy support") we avoid one copy with the socket-based interface too (via the skb_zerocopy helper). The other problem is that skbs attached to mmaped netlink socket behave different from normal skbs: - they don't have a shinfo area, so all functions that use skb_shinfo() (e.g. skb_clone) cannot be used. - reserving headroom prevents userspace from seeing the content as it expects message to start at skb->head. See for instance commit aa3a022094fa ("netlink: not trim skb for mmaped socket when dump"). - skbs handed e.g. to netlink_ack must have non-NULL skb->sk, else we crash because it needs the sk to check if a tx ring is attached. Also not obvious, leads to non-intuitive bug fixes such as 7c7bdf359 ("netfilter: nfnetlink: use original skbuff when acking batches"). mmaped netlink also didn't play nicely with the skb_zerocopy helper used by nfqueue and openvswitch. Daniel Borkmann fixed this via commit 6bb0fef489f6 ("netlink, mmap: fix edge-case leakages in nf queue zero-copy")' but at the cost of also needing to provide remaining length to the allocation function. nfqueue also has problems when used with mmaped rx netlink: - mmaped netlink doesn't allow use of nfqueue batch verdict messages. Problem is that in the mmap case, the allocation time also determines the ordering in which the frame will be seen by userspace (A allocating before B means that A is located in earlier ring slot, but this also means that B might get a lower sequence number then A since seqno is decided later. To fix this we would need to extend the spinlocked region to also cover the allocation and message setup which isn't desirable. - nfqueue can now be configured to queue large (GSO) skbs to userspace. Queing GSO packets is faster than having to force a software segmentation in the kernel, so this is a desirable option. However, with a mmap based ring one has to use 64kb per ring slot element, else mmap has to fall back to the socket path (NL_MMAP_STATUS_COPY) for all large packets. To use the mmap interface, userspace not only has to probe for mmap netlink support, it also has to implement a recv/socket receive path in order to handle messages that exceed the size of an rx ring element. commit 541b6fe63023f3059cf85d47ff2767a3e42a8e44 upstream. According to USB Specification 2.0 table 9-4, wMaxPacketSize is a bitfield. Endpoint's maxpacket is laid out in bits 10:0. For high-speed, high-bandwidth isochronous endpoints, bits 12:11 contain a multiplier to tell us how many transactions we want to try per uframe. This means that if we want an isochronous endpoint to issue 3 transfers of 1024 bytes per uframe, wMaxPacketSize should contain the value: 1024 | (2 << 11) or 5120 (0x1400). In order to make Host and Peripheral controller drivers' life easier, we're adding a helper which returns bits 12:11. Note that no care is made WRT to checking endpoint type and gadget's speed. 2016-03-24net/ipv6: add sysctl option accept_ra_min_hop_limitHangbin Liu

Commit 6fd99094de2b ("ipv6: Don't reduce hop limit for an interface") disabled accept hop limit from RA if it is smaller than the current hop limit for security stuff. But this behavior kind of break the RFC definition. RFC 4861, 6.3.4. Processing Received Router Advertisements A Router Advertisement field (e.g., Cur Hop Limit, Reachable Time, and Retrans Timer) may contain a value denoting that it is unspecified. In such cases, the parameter should be ignored and the host should continue using whatever value it is already using. If the received Cur Hop Limit value is non-zero, the host SHOULD set its CurHopLimit variable to the received value. So add sysctl option accept_ra_min_hop_limit to let user choose the minimum hop limit value they can accept from RA. And set default to 1 to meet RFC standards. 2015-08-11USB: usbfs: allow URBs to be reaped after disconnectionAlan Stern
commit 3f2cee73b650921b2e214bf487b2061a1c266504 upstream. The usbfs API has a peculiar hole: Users are not allowed to reap their URBs after the device has been disconnected. There doesn't seem to be any good reason for this; it is an ad-hoc inconsistency. The patch allows users to issue the USBDEVFS_REAPURB and USBDEVFS_REAPURBNDELAY ioctls (together with their 32-bit counterparts on 64-bit systems) even after the device is gone. If no URBs are pending for a disconnected device then the ioctls will return -ENODEV rather than -EAGAIN, because obviously no new URBs will ever be able to complete. The patch also adds a new capability flag for USBDEVFS_GET_CAPABILITIES to indicate that the reap-after-disconnect feature is supported. Since both ppc and ppc64 have LE variants which are now reported by uname, add that flag (__AUDIT_ARCH_LE) to syscall_get_arch() and add AUDIT_ARCH_PPC64LE variant. Without this, perf trace and auditctl fail. Mainline kernel reports ppc64le (per a058801) but there is no matching AUDIT_ARCH_PPC64LE. Since 32-bit PPC LE is not supported by audit, don't advertise it in AUDIT_ARCH_PPC* variants. An attempt to fix fcopy on i586 (bc5a5b0 Drivers: hv: util: Properly pack the data for file copy functionality) led to a regression on x86_64 (and actually didn't fix i586 breakage). Fcopy messages from Hyper-V host come in the following format: struct do_fcopy_hdr | 36 bytes 0000 | 4 bytes offset | 8 bytes size | 4 bytes data | 6144 bytes On x86_64 struct hv_do_fcopy matched this format without ' __attribute__((packed))' and on i586 adding ' __attribute__((packed))' to it doesn't change anything. This is much more flexible if you want to receive items which are larger than the current fixed buffer of 3992 bytes or if you want to fetch more items at once. This started as debugging helper, to watch the effects of converting between raid levels on multiple devices, but could be useful standalone. In my case the usage filter was not finegrained enough and led to converting too many chunks at once. Another example use is in connection with drange+devid or vrange filters that allow to work with a specific chunk or even with a chunk on a given device. The limit filter applies last, the value of 0 means no limiting. System V shared memory a) can be abused to trigger out-of-memory conditions and the standard measures against out-of-memory do not work: - it is not possible to use setrlimit to limit the size of shm segments. - segments can exist without association with any processes, thus the oom-killer is unable to free that memory. b) is typically used for shared information - today often multiple GB. (e.g. database shared buffers) The current default is a maximum segment size of 32 MB and a maximum total size of 8 GB. This is often too much for a) and not enough for b), which means that lots of users must change the defaults. This patch increases the default limits (nearly) to the maximum, which is perfect for case b). The defaults are used after boot and as the initial value for each new namespace. Admins/distros that need a protection against a) should reduce the limits and/or enable shm_rmid_forced. Unix has historically required setting these limits for shared memory, and Linux inherited such behavior. The consequence of this is added complexity for users and administrators. One very common example are Database setup/installation documents and scripts, where users must manually calculate the values for these limits. This also requires (some) knowledge of how the underlying memory management works, thus causing, in many occasions, the limits to just be flat out wrong. Disabling these limits sooner could have saved companies a lot of time, headaches and money for support. But it's never too late, simplify users life now. Further notes: - The patch only changes default, overrides behave as before: # sysctl kernel.shmall=33554432 would recreate the previous limit for SHMMAX (for the current namespace). - Disabling sysv shm allocation is possible with: # sysctl kernel.shmall=0 (not a new feature, also per-namespace) - The limits are intentionally set to a value slightly less than ULONG_MAX, to avoid triggering overflows in user space apps. 2014-06-06perf: Differentiate exec() and non-exec() comm eventsAdrian Hunter
perf tools like 'perf report' can aggregate samples by comm strings, which generally works. However, there are other potential use-cases. For example, to pair up 'calls' with 'returns' accurately (from branch events like Intel BTS) it is necessary to identify whether the process has exec'd. Although a comm event is generated when an 'exec' happens it is also generated whenever the comm string is changed on a whim (e.g. by prctl PR_SET_NAME). This patch adds a flag to the comm event to differentiate one case from the other. In order to determine whether the kernel supports the new flag, a selection bit named 'exec' is added to struct perf_event_attr. The bit does nothing but will cause perf_event_open() to fail if the bit is set on kernels that do not have it defined. This patch introduces new branch filter PERF_SAMPLE_BRANCH_COND which will extend the existing perf ABI. This will filter branches which are conditional. Various architectures can provide this functionality either with HW filtering support (if present) or with SW filtering of captured branch instructions.
