2013-01-01Update copyrights for 2013Bruce Momjian
Fully update git head, and update back branches in ./COPYRIGHT and legal.sgml files.
2012-11-29Basic binary heap implementation.Robert Haas
There are probably other places where this can be used, but for now, this just makes MergeAppend use it, so that this code will have test coverage. There is other work in the queue that will use this, as well. Abhijit Menon-Sen, reviewed by Andres Freund, Robert Haas, Álvaro Herrera, Tom Lane, and others.
2012-10-18Code review for inline-list patch.Tom Lane
Make foreach macros less syntactically dangerous, and fix some typos in evidently-never-tested ones. Add missing slist_next_node and slist_head_node functions. Fix broken dlist_check code. Assorted comment improvements.
2012-10-17Embedded list interfaceAlvaro Herrera
Provide a common implementation of embedded singly-linked and doubly-linked lists. "Embedded" in the sense that the nodes' next/previous pointers exist within some larger struct; this design choice reduces memory allocation overhead. Most of the implementation uses inlineable functions (where supported), for performance. Some existing uses of both types of lists have been converted to the new code, for demonstration purposes. Other uses can (and probably will) be converted in the future. Since dllist.c is unused after this conversion, it has been removed. 2010-05-08Work around a subtle portability problem in use of printf %s format.Tom Lane
Depending on which spec you read, field widths and precisions in %s may be counted either in bytes or characters. Our code was assuming bytes, which is wrong at least for glibc's implementation, and in any case libc might have a different idea of the prevailing encoding than we do. Hence, for portable results we must avoid using anything more complex than just "%s" unless the string to be printed is known to be all-ASCII. This patch fixes the cases I could find, including the psql formatting failure reported by Hernan Gonzalez. In HEAD only, I also added comments to some places where it appears safe to continue using "%.*s".

2009-07-24Assorted minor refactoring in EXPLAIN.Tom Lane
This is believed to not change the output at all, with one known exception: "Subquery Scan foo" becomes "Subquery Scan on foo". (We can fix that if anyone complains, but it would be a wart, because the old code was clearly inconsistent.) The main intention is to remove duplicate coding and provide a cleaner base for subsequent EXPLAIN patching. Robert Haas

2007-08-12Increase the initial size of StringInfo buffers to 1024 bytes (from 256);Tom Lane
likewise increase the initial size of the scanner's literal buffer to 1024 (from 128). Instrumentation of the regression tests suggests that this saves a useful amount of repalloc() traffic --- the number of calls occurring during one set of tests drops from about 6900 to about 3900. The old sizes were chosen in the late 90's with an eye to machines much smaller than are common today.
2007-05-28Tweak the code in a couple of places to try to deliver more user-friendlyTom Lane
error messages when a single COPY line is too long for us to handle. Per example from Johann Spies.
2007-03-22Remove the currently unused FRONTEND case in dllist.c. This allows the usageAlvaro Herrera
of palloc instead of malloc, which means a list can be freed simply by deleting the memory context that contains it.
2007-03-03Add resetStringInfo(), which clears the content of a StringInfo, andNeil Conway
fixup various places in the tree that were clearing a StringInfo by hand. Making this function a part of the API simplifies client code slightly, and avoids needlessly peeking inside the StringInfo interface.

2003-04-24Infrastructure for upgraded error reporting mechanism. elog.c isTom Lane
rewritten and the protocol is changed, but most elog calls are still elog calls. Also, we need to contemplate mechanisms for controlling all this functionality --- eg, how much stuff should appear in the postmaster log? And what API should libpq expose for it?

2001-10-05Further cleanup of dynahash.c API, in pursuit of portability andTom Lane
readability. Bizarre '(long *) TRUE' return convention is gone, in favor of just raising an error internally in dynahash.c when we detect hashtable corruption. HashTableWalk is gone, in favor of using hash_seq_search directly, since it had no hope of working with non-LONGALIGNable datatypes. Simplify some other code that was made undesirably grotty by promixity to HashTableWalk.

2001-02-10Restructure the key include files per recent pghackers discussion: thereTom Lane
are now separate files "postgres.h" and "postgres_fe.h", which are meant to be the primary include files for backend .c files and frontend .c files respectively. By default, only include files meant for frontend use are installed into the installation include directory. There is a new make target 'make install-all-headers' that adds the whole content of the src/include tree to the installed fileset, for use by people who want to develop server-side code without keeping the complete source tree on hand. Cleaned up a whole lot of crufty and inconsistent header inclusions.
