2006-03-11Remove a few places that attempted to define INT_MAX, SCHAR_MAX, andNeil Conway
similar constants if they were not previously defined. All these constants must be defined by limits.h according to C89, so we can safely assume they are present.

Also performed an initial run through of upgrading our Copyright date to extend to 2005 ... first run here was very simple ... change everything where: grep 1996-2004 && the word 'Copyright' ... scanned through the generated list with 'less' first, and after, to make sure that I only picked up the right entries ...
2004-10-04Remove arithmetic operators on the 1-byte-char datatype, as per proposalsTom Lane
made several times in the past. Add coercion functions between "char" and integer so that a workaround is possible if needed. Initdb forced.

2003-07-27Error message editing in utils/adt. Again thanks to Joe Conway for doingTom Lane
the bulk of the heavy lifting ...
2003-05-12Add binary I/O routines for a bunch more datatypes. Still a few to go,Tom Lane
but that was enough tedium for one day. Along the way, move the few support routines for types xid and cid into a more logical place.
2003-03-11Add explicit tests for division by zero to all user-accessible integerTom Lane
division and modulo functions, to avoid problems on OS X (which fails to trap 0 divide at all) and Windows (which traps it in some bizarre nonstandard fashion). Standardize on 'division by zero' as the one true spelling of this error message. Add regression tests as suggested by Neil Conway.

2001-05-28Make text <=> char conversion functions convert zero character to andTom Lane
from an empty text string. This makes them consistent with the de facto behavior of type char's I/O conversion functions, and avoids generating text values with embedded nulls, which confuse many text operators.

2000-06-05Latest round of fmgr updates. All functions with bool, char, or int2Tom Lane
inputs have been converted to newstyle. This should go a long way towards fixing our portability problems with platforms where char and short parameters are passed differently from int-width parameters. Still more to do for the Alpha port however.

The comparison routines for text and char data type give incorrect results if the input data contains characters greater than 127. As these routines perform the comparison using signed char variables all character codes greater than 127 are interpreted as less than 0. These codes are used to encode the iso8859 char sets. The other text-like data types seem to work as expected as they use unsigned chars in comparisons. Submitted by: Massimo Dal Zotto <dz@cs.unitn.it>
