2003-09-25Message editing: remove gratuitous variations in message wording, standardizePeter Eisentraut
terms, add some clarifications, fix some untranslatable attempts at dynamic message building.
2003-09-15OK, some of these syntax errors should be given other codes.Peter Eisentraut
2003-09-09Some "feature not supported" errors are better syntax errors, because thePeter Eisentraut
feature they complain about isn't a feature or cannot be implemented without definitional changes.

2003-07-27Error message editing in utils/adt. Again thanks to Joe Conway for doingTom Lane
the bulk of the heavy lifting ...
2003-05-27Make debug_ GUC varables output DEBUG1 rather than LOG, and mention inBruce Momjian
docs that CLIENT/LOG_MIN_MESSAGES now controls debug_* output location. Doc changes included.
2003-05-12Add binary I/O routines for a bunch more datatypes. Still a few to go,Tom Lane
but that was enough tedium for one day. Along the way, move the few support routines for types xid and cid into a more logical place.
2002-11-13Add new palloc0 call as merge of palloc and MemSet(0).Bruce Momjian
2002-11-11Back out use of palloc0 in place if palloc/MemSet. Seems constant lenBruce Momjian
to MemSet is a performance boost.
2002-11-10Merge palloc()/MemSet(0) calls into a single palloc0() call.Bruce Momjian
2002-09-18Extend pg_cast castimplicit column to a three-way value; this allows usTom Lane
to be flexible about assignment casts without introducing ambiguity in operator/function resolution. Introduce a well-defined promotion hierarchy for numeric datatypes (int2->int4->int8->numeric->float4->float8). Change make_const to initially label numeric literals as int4, int8, or numeric (never float8 anymore). Explicitly mark Func and RelabelType nodes to indicate whether they came from a function call, explicit cast, or implicit cast; use this to do reverse-listing more accurately and without so many heuristics. Explicit casts to char, varchar, bit, varbit will truncate or pad without raising an error (the pre-7.2 behavior), while assigning to a column without any explicit cast will still raise an error for wrong-length data like 7.3. This more nearly follows the SQL spec than 7.2 behavior (we should be reporting a 'completion condition' in the explicit-cast cases, but we have no mechanism for that, so just do silent truncation). Fix some problems with enforcement of typmod for array elements; it didn't work at all in 'UPDATE ... SET array[n] = foo', for example. Provide a generalized array_length_coerce() function to replace the specialized per-array-type functions that used to be needed (and were missing for NUMERIC as well as all the datetime types). Add missing conversions int8<->float4, text<->numeric, oid<->int8. initdb forced.

2002-08-26Modify array operations to include array's element type OID in theTom Lane
array header, and to compute sizing and alignment of array elements the same way normal tuple access operations do --- viz, using the tupmacs.h macros att_addlength and att_align. This makes the world safe for arrays of cstrings or intervals, and should make it much easier to write array-type-polymorphic functions; as examples see the cleanups of array_out and contrib/array_iterator. By Joe Conway and Tom Lane.
2002-08-04Allow bit string constants without fully-specified length declaration.Thomas G. Lockhart
Implement conversion between 8-byte integers and bit strings. Similar to what is done for 4-byte integers.

2002-03-06Change made to elog:Bruce Momjian
o Change all current CVS messages of NOTICE to WARNING. We were going to do this just before 7.3 beta but it has to be done now, as you will see below. o Change current INFO messages that should be controlled by client_min_messages to NOTICE. o Force remaining INFO messages, like from EXPLAIN, VACUUM VERBOSE, etc. to always go to the client. o Remove INFO from the client_min_messages options and add NOTICE. Seems we do need three non-ERROR elog levels to handle the various behaviors we need for these messages. Regression passed.
2001-10-25pgindent run on all C files. Java run to follow. initdb/regressionBruce Momjian
tests pass.
2001-10-06Rearrange fmgr.c and relcache so that it's possible to keep FmgrInfoTom Lane
lookup info in the relcache for index access method support functions. This makes a huge difference for dynamically loaded support functions, and should save a few cycles even for built-in ones. Also tweak dfmgr.c so that load_external_function is called only once, not twice, when doing fmgr_info for a dynamically loaded function. All per performance gripe from Teodor Sigaev, 5-Oct-01.
2001-05-22Make bit and bit varying types reject too long input. (They already triedPeter Eisentraut
to do that, but inconsistently.) Make bit type reject too short input, too, per SQL. Since it no longer zero pads, 'zpbit*' has been renamed to 'bit*' in the source, hence initdb.
2001-05-03Ensure that btree sort ordering functions and boolean comparison operatorsTom Lane
give consistent results for all datatypes. Types float4, float8, and numeric were broken for NaN values; abstime, timestamp, and interval were broken for INVALID values; timetz was just plain broken (some possible pairs of values were neither < nor = nor >). Also clean up text, bpchar, varchar, and bit/varbit to eliminate duplicate code and thereby reduce the probability of similar inconsistencies arising in the future.

2000-11-22Fix for bitsubstr when third argument is missing (i.e., -1).Peter Eisentraut

2000-11-18Modify input and output routines to print plain binary strings without anyPeter Eisentraut
'b' prefixes.
2000-11-16Print bit values as binary strings (not hex)Peter Eisentraut
2000-11-07This somehow gets moot. Is there a way to make gcc reject those comments?Bruce Momjian

2000-10-31Change the parser to convert SQL "position" and "substring" syntax toPeter Eisentraut
position() and substring() functions, so that it works transparently for bit types as well. Alias the text functions appropriately. Add position() for bit types. Add new constant node T_BitString that represents literals of the form B'1001 and pass those to zpbit type.
2000-08-26Rename BITSPERBYTE to BITS_PER_BYTE to avoid conflict with <values.h>Tom Lane
on some platforms.
2000-08-21First pass at integrating BIT and BIT VARYING code from Adriaan Joubert.Tom Lane
Update functions to new-style fmgr, make BIT and VARBIT be binary- equivalent, add entries to allow these types to be btree indexed, correct a few bugs. BIT/VARBIT are now toastable, too. NOTE: initdb forced due to catalog updates.
2000-08-07TOAST mop-up work: update comments for tuple-size-related symbols suchTom Lane
as MaxHeapAttributeNumber. Increase MaxAttrSize to something more reasonable (given what it's used for, namely checking char(n) declarations, I didn't make it the full 1G that it could theoretically be --- 10Mb seemed a more reasonable number). Improve calculation of MaxTupleSize.
2000-07-28Remove <values.h> inclusions, no-longer-needed MAXINT definitions.Tom Lane
2000-07-12Remove a bunch of unused configure tests, in particular cases wherePeter Eisentraut
* the result is not recorded anywhere * the result is not used anywhere * the result is only used in some places, whereas others have been getting away with it * the result is used improperly Also make command line options handling a little better (e.g., --disable-locale, while redundant, should really still *dis*able).
