2018-02-26Empty search_path in Autovacuum and non-psql/pgbench clients.Noah Misch
This makes the client programs behave as documented regardless of the connect-time search_path and regardless of user-created objects. Today, a malicious user with CREATE permission on a search_path schema can take control of certain of these clients' queries and invoke arbitrary SQL functions under the client identity, often a superuser. This is exploitable in the default configuration, where all users have CREATE privilege on schema "public". This changes behavior of user-defined code stored in the database, like pg_index.indexprs and pg_extension_config_dump(). If they reach code bearing unqualified names, "does not exist" or "no schema has been selected to create in" errors might appear. Users may fix such errors by schema-qualifying affected names. After upgrading, consider watching server logs for these errors. The --table arguments of src/bin/scripts clients have been lax; for example, "vacuumdb -Zt pg_am\;CHECKPOINT" performed a checkpoint. That now fails, but for now, "vacuumdb -Zt 'pg_am(amname);CHECKPOINT'" still performs a checkpoint. Back-patch to 9.3 (all supported versions). Reviewed by Tom Lane, though this fix strategy was not his first choice. Reported by Arseniy Sharoglazov. Security: CVE-2018-1058

2014-04-16Update oidjoins regression test for 9.4.Tom Lane
Now that we're pretty much feature-frozen, it's time to update the checks on system catalog foreign-key references. (It looks like we missed doing this altogether for 9.3. Sigh.)
2014-01-07Update copyright for 2014Bruce Momjian
Update all files in head, and files COPYRIGHT and legal.sgml in all back branches.
2013-07-04Get rid of pg_class.reltoastidxid.Fujii Masao
Treat TOAST index just the same as normal one and get the OID of TOAST index from pg_index but not pg_class.reltoastidxid. This change allows us to handle multiple TOAST indexes, and which is required infrastructure for upcoming REINDEX CONCURRENTLY feature. Patch by Michael Paquier, reviewed by Andres Freund and me.

2011-11-14Update oidjoins regression test to match git HEAD.Tom Lane
This is mostly to add some sanity checking for the pg_range catalog.
2011-04-23Improve findoidjoins to cover more cases.Tom Lane
Teach the program and script to deal with OID-array referencing columns, which we now have several of. Also, modify the recommended usage process to specify that the program should be run against the regression database rather than template1. This lets it find numerous joins that cannot be found in template1 because the relevant catalogs are entirely empty. Together these changes add seventeen formerly-missed cases to the oidjoins regression test.

2010-11-12Improved parallel make supportPeter Eisentraut
Replace for loops in makefiles with proper dependencies. Parallel make can now span across directories. Also, make -k and make -q work properly. GNU make 3.80 or newer is now required.
2010-09-20Remove cvs keywords from all files.Magnus Hagander
2010-07-05Split the LDFLAGS make variable into two parts: LDFLAGS is now used forTom Lane
linking both executables and shared libraries, and we add on LDFLAGS_EX when linking executables or LDFLAGS_SL when linking shared libraries. This provides a significantly cleaner way of dealing with link-time switches than the former behavior. Also, make sure that the various platform-specific %.so: %.o rules incorporate LDFLAGS and LDFLAGS_SL; most of them missed that before. (I did not add these variables for the platforms that invoke $(LD) directly, however. It's not clear if we can do that safely, since for the most part we assume these variables use CC command-line syntax.) Per gripe from Aaron Swenson and subsequent investigation.

2007-09-27Define the FRONTEND symbol in postgres_fe.h, which allows us to eliminateTom Lane
duplicative -DFRONTEND flags from many Makefiles. We still need Makefile control of the symbol in a few places that compile frontend-or-backend src/port/ files, but it's a lot cleaner than before. Hiroshi Saito
2007-08-21Tsearch2 functionality migrates to core. The bulk of this work is byTom Lane
Oleg Bartunov and Teodor Sigaev, but I did a lot of editorializing, so anything that's broken is probably my fault. Documentation is nonexistent as yet, but let's land the patch so we can get some portability testing done.
2007-05-11Support arrays of composite types, including the rowtypes of regular tablesTom Lane
and views (but not system catalogs, nor sequences or toast tables). Get rid of the hardwired convention that a type's array type is named exactly "_type", instead using a new column pg_type.typarray to provide the linkage. (It still will be named "_type", though, except in odd corner cases such as maximum-length type names.) Along the way, make tracking of owner and schema dependencies for types more uniform: a type directly created by the user has these dependencies, while a table rowtype or auto-generated array type does not have them, but depends on its parent object instead. 2006-12-30Support type modifiers for user-defined types, and pull most knowledgeTom Lane
about typmod representation for standard types out into type-specific typmod I/O functions. Teodor Sigaev, with some editorialization by Tom Lane.
2006-12-23Restructure operator classes to allow improved handling of cross-data-typeTom Lane
cases. Operator classes now exist within "operator families". While most families are equivalent to a single class, related classes can be grouped into one family to represent the fact that they are semantically compatible. Cross-type operators are now naturally adjunct parts of a family, without having to wedge them into a particular opclass as we had done originally. This commit restructures the catalogs and cleans up enough of the fallout so that everything still works at least as well as before, but most of the work needed to actually improve the planner's behavior will come later. Also, there are not yet CREATE/DROP/ALTER OPERATOR FAMILY commands; the only way to create a new family right now is to allow CREATE OPERATOR CLASS to make one by default. I owe some more documentation work, too. But that can all be done in smaller pieces once this infrastructure is in place.
