4 daysio: Use gnulib fts implementation (BZ 22944, BZ 20331)Adhemerval Zanella
This patch synchronizes the glibc fts implementation with the latest version from gnulib (as of 2026-02-16). The primary motivation is to address limitations in the legacy glibc implementation, most notably BZ 22944, where fts fails with an ENAMETOOLONG error when traversing very long paths or deeply nested directory trees. The gnulib implementation dynamically reallocates path buffers and uses openat/fchdir optimizations, effectively lifting the MAXPATHLEN limitation. The gnulib implementation also added extra features, which are used by different GNU projects (coreutils, diffutils): * FTS_TIGHT_CYCLE_CHECK: used to enable a strict, immediate cycle-detection algorithm during a file system traversal. This is done internally using a hash table: every time the traversal enters a directory, it records the directory's device and inode (dev/ino) pair in the hash table, and before entering any directory, fts checks the hash table. * FTS_CWDFD: instead of actually changing the process's current working directory, it maintains a virtual current working directory using file descriptors. The file descriptor is store at the fts_cwd_fd field and all subsequent file operations are performed relative to this file descriptor using *at functions. * FTS_DEFER_STAT: performance-oriented flag that instructs the file tree traversal engine to delay fetching file metadata. When the flag is used, fts skips the immediate stat call. Instead, it marks the entry with a special internal state (FTS_NSOK and FTS_STAT_REQUIRED). The actual stat call is pushed down the line and executed by fts_read right before the application actually accesses the entry. * FTS_VERBATIM: fts_open accept and use the path strings exactly as they were provided in the arguments array without slash trimming. * FTS_MOUNT: it restrict the file tree walk to a single file system. Hopefully,it would allow some GNU projects to use the glibc implementation instead of pulling the gnulib one. It requires some changes to keep compatibility, compared to gnulib: * The new required fields are added at the end of FTS structure, and the new FTS flags are adjusted to avoid change FTS_NAMEONLY/FTS_STOP (even though they are marked as private). * The FTSENT uses a flexible array (fts_name), so two adjustments are required: the two new members (fts_fts and fts_dirp) are place *before* the struct and the fts_statp is now always allocated and accounted (the gnulib implementation uses an alwyas allocated member). Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu.

Clang issues a warning for double alias redirection, indicating that thei original symbol is used even if a weak definition attempts to override it. For instance, in the construction: int __internal_impl (...) {} weak_alias (__internal_impl, external_impl); #if SOMETHING weak_alias (external_impl, another_external_impl) #endif Clang warns that another_external_impl always resolves to __internal_impl, even if external_impl is a weak reference. Using the internal symbol for both aliases resolves this warning. This issue also occurs with certain libc_hidden_def usage: int __internal_impl (...) {} weak_alias (__internal_impl, __internal_alias) libc_hidden_weak (__internal_alias) In this case, using a strong_alias is sufficient to avoid the warning (since the alias is internal, there is no need to use a weak alias). However, for the constructions like: int __internal_impl (...) {} weak_alias (__internal_impl, __internal_alias) libc_hidden_def (__internal_alias) weak_alias (__internal_impl, external_alias) libc_hidden_def (external_alias) Clang warns that the internal external_alias will always resolve to __GI___internal_impl, even if a weak definition of __GI_internal_impl is overridden. For this case, a new macro named static_weak_alias is used to create a strong alias for SHARED, or a weak_alias otherwise. With these changes, there is no need to check and enable the -Wno-ignored-attributes suppression when using clang. The conditionals for several mtrace-based tests in catgets, elf, libio, malloc, misc, nptl, posix, and stdio-common were incorrect leading to test failures when bootstrapping glibc without perl. The correct conditional for mtrace-based tests requires three checks: first checking for run-built-tests, then build-shared, and lastly that PERL is not equal to "no" (missing perl). Since the _FORTIFY_SOURCE feature uses some routines of Glibc, they need to be excluded from the fortification. On top of that: - some tests explicitly verify that some level of fortification works appropriately, we therefore shouldn't modify the level set for them. - some objects need to be build with optimization disabled, which prevents _FORTIFY_SOURCE to be used for them. Assembler files that implement architecture specific versions of the fortified routines were not excluded from _FORTIFY_SOURCE as there is no C header included that would impact their behavior. Starting with commit b05fae4d8e34604a72ee36d2d3164391b76fcf0b "elf: Use the minimal malloc on tunables_strdup", I get lots of segfaults in static tests on s390x when also using, e.g.: export GLIBC_TUNABLES="glibc.elision.enable=1" tunables_strdup callls __minimal_malloc which tries to call __mmap due to insufficient space left. __mmap itself first setups a new stack frame and segfaults when copying the stack-protector canary from thread-pointer. 2021-07-22Move malloc hooks into a compat DSOSiddhesh Poyarekar
Remove all malloc hook uses from core malloc functions and move it into a new library libc_malloc_debug.so. With this, the hooks now no longer have any effect on the core library. libc_malloc_debug.so is a malloc interposer that needs to be preloaded to get hooks functionality back so that the debugging features that depend on the hooks, i.e. malloc-check, mcheck and mtrace work again. Without the preloaded DSO these debugging features will be nops. These features will be ported away from hooks in subsequent patches. Similarly, legacy applications that need hooks functionality need to preload libc_malloc_debug.so. The symbols exported by libc_malloc_debug.so are maintained at exactly the same version as libc.so. Finally, static binaries will no longer be able to use malloc debugging features since they cannot preload the debugging DSO. For !__ASSUME_TIME64_SYSCALLS there is no need to issue a 64-bit syscall if the provided timeout fits in a 32-bit one. The 64-bit usage should be rare since the timeout is a relative one. This also avoids the need to use supports_time64() (which breaks the usage case of live migration like CRIU or similar). It also fixes an issue on 32-bit select call for !__ASSUME_PSELECT (microblase with older kernels only) where the expected timeout is a 'struct timeval' instead of 'struct timespec'. 2021-06-03dlfcn: Cleanups after -ldl is no longer requiredFlorian Weimer
This commit removes the ELF constructor and internal variables from dlfcn/dlfcn.c. The file now serves the same purpose as nptl/libpthread-compat.c, so it is renamed to dlfcn/libdl-compat.c. The use of libdl-shared-only-routines ensures that libdl.a is empty. This commit adjusts the test suite not to use $(libdl). The libdl.so symbolic link is no longer installed. The addmntent function replicates elements of struct mnt on stack using alloca, which is unsafe. Put characters directly into the stream, escaping them as they're being written out. Also add a test to check all escaped characters with addmntent and getmntent.

The variable is placed in libc.so, and it can be true only in an outer libc, not libcs loaded via dlmopen or static dlopen. Since thread creation from inner namespaces does not work, pthread_create can update __libc_single_threaded directly. Using __libc_early_init and its initial flag, implementation of this variable is very straightforward. When support for long double format with 128-bits (-mlong-double-128) was added for platforms where long double had the same format as double, such as powerpc, compatibility versions for the functions listed in the commit title were missed. Since the older format of long double can still be used (with -mlong-double-64), using these functions with a format string that requests the printing of long double variables will produce wrong outputs. This patch adds the missing compatibility functions and header magic to redirect calls to them when -mlong-double-64 is in use. Tested for powerpc, powerpc64 and powerpc64le.

The test case misc/tst-efgcvt.c only tests the double variants of the Old-fashioned System V number-to-string functions: ecvt, fcvt, and their re-entrant counterparts. With a few macros, the code can be reused for the long double versions of these functions. A future patch will reuse it again for IEEE long double on powerpc64le. Tested for powerpc and powerpc64le.

Similarly to what has been done for argp_error, and argp_failure, as well as for warn, warnx, vwarn, and vwarnx, this patch adds new tests for the following functions: err, errx, verr, verrx, error, and error_at_line. The new tests check that the conversion of long double variables into string works correctly on the default format of the type. Future patches will reuse these tests for other formats that long double can take. Tested for powerpc64le. * misc/Makefile (tests): Add tst-ldbl-error. * misc/tst-ldbl-error.c: New file.

As for sysctl, ustat has been deprecated in favor of {f}statfs. Also some newer ports which uses generic interface builds a stub version that returns ENOSYS. This patch deprecates ustat interface by removing ustat.h related headers, adding a compatibility symbol, and avoiding new ports to build and provide the symbol. Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu.
