2026-01-23Documentation: use a source-read extension for the index link boilerplateJani Nikula
The root document usually has a special :ref:`genindex` link to the generated index. This is also the case for Documentation/index.rst. The other index.rst files deeper in the directory hierarchy usually don't. For SPHINXDIRS builds, the root document isn't Documentation/index.rst, but some other index.rst in the hierarchy. Currently they have a ".. only::" block to add the index link when doing SPHINXDIRS html builds. This is obviously very tedious and repetitive. The link is also added to all index.rst files in the hierarchy for SPHINXDIRS builds, not just the root document. Put the boilerplate in a sphinx-includes/subproject-index.rst file, and include it at the end of the root document for subproject builds in an ad-hoc source-read extension defined in conf.py. For now, keep having the boilerplate in translations, because this approach currently doesn't cover translated index link headers. 2024-10-02move asm/unaligned.h to linux/unaligned.hAl Viro
asm/unaligned.h is always an include of asm-generic/unaligned.h; might as well move that thing to linux/unaligned.h and include that - there's nothing arch-specific in that header. auto-generated by the following: for i in `git grep -l -w asm/unaligned.h`; do sed -i -e "s/asm\/unaligned.h/linux\/unaligned.h/" $i done for i in `git grep -l -w asm-generic/unaligned.h`; do sed -i -e "s/asm-generic\/unaligned.h/linux\/unaligned.h/" $i done git mv include/asm-generic/unaligned.h include/linux/unaligned.h git mv tools/include/asm-generic/unaligned.h tools/include/linux/unaligned.h sed -i -e "/unaligned.h/d" include/asm-generic/Kbuild sed -i -e "s/__ASM_GENERIC/__LINUX/" include/linux/unaligned.h tools/include/linux/unaligned.h

2024-01-11docs: kernel_feat.py: fix potential command injectionVegard Nossum
The kernel-feat directive passes its argument straight to the shell. This is unfortunate and unnecessary. Let's always use paths relative to $srctree/Documentation/ and use subprocess.check_call() instead of subprocess.Popen(shell=True). This also makes the code shorter. This is analogous to commit 3231dd586277 ("docs: kernel_abi.py: fix command injection") where we did exactly the same thing for kernel_abi.py, somehow I completely missed this one. 2023-06-12arm: docs: Move Arm documentation to Documentation/arch/Jonathan Corbet
Architecture-specific documentation is being moved into Documentation/arch/ as a way of cleaning up the top-level documentation directory and making the docs hierarchy more closely match the source hierarchy. Move Documentation/arm into arch/ (along with the Chinese equvalent translations).
