2025-10-23clk: sunxi-ng: sun55i-a523-ccu: Lower audio0 pll minimum rateChen-Yu Tsai
While the user manual states that the PLL's rate should be between 180 MHz and 3 GHz in the register defninition section, it also says the actual operating frequency is 22.5792*4 MHz in the PLL features table. 22.5792*4 MHz is one of the actual clock rates that we want and is is available in the SDM table. Lower the minimum clock rate to 90 MHz so that both rates in the SDM table can be used. The "bus-r-dma" clock in the A523's PRCM clock controller is also referred to as "DMA_CLKEN_SW" or "DMA ADB400 gating". It is unclear how this ties into the DMA controller MBUS clock gate; however if the clock is not enabled, the DMA controller in the MCU block will fail to access DRAM, even failing to retrieve the DMA descriptors. Mark this clock as critical. This sort of mirrors what is done for the main DMA controller's MBUS clock, which has a separate toggle that is currently left out of the main clock controller driver. Brian has taken up that task which nobody else has wanted to do for close to a decade. Thanks Brian! This is all prerequisite work to get to the real task of improving the clk rate setting process. Once we have determine_rate() used everywhere, we'll be able to do things like chain the rate request structs in linked lists to order the rate setting operations or add more parameters without having to change every clk driver in existence. It's also nice to not have multiple ways to do something which just causes confusion for clk driver authors. Overall I'm glad this is getting done. Beyond this change we also have a tweak to the clk_lookup() function in the core framework to use hashing on the clk name instead of a clk tree walk with string comparisons. We _still_ rely on the clk name to be unique, because historically we've used globally unique strings to describe the clk tree topology. This tree walk becomes increasingly slow as more clks are added to the system. Searching from the roots for a duplicate is simple but pretty dumb and it wastes boot time so we're using a hash table as an improvement. Ideally we wouldn't rely on the strings to be unique at all, relegating them to simply debug information, but that is future work that will likely require some sort of Kconfig knob indicating strings aren't used for topology description. Outside of the core framework changes we have the usual new SoC support and fixes to clk drivers for things that were discovered once the clks were used by consumer drivers. Nothing in particular is jumping out at me in the "misc" pile, except maybe the Amlogic driver that has gone through a refactoring. 2025-09-13clk: sunxi-ng: add support for the A523/T527 MCU CCUChen-Yu Tsai
The A523/T527 SoCs have a new MCU PRCM, which has more clocks and reset controls for the RISC-V MCU and other peripherals. There is a second audio PLL, but no bus clock dividers. The BSP driver uses the 24MHz main oscillator as the parent for all the bus clocks. But the diagram suggests busses from the other PRCM are used in this block as well. Add a driver to support this part. Unlike the BSP driver, the SoC's main MBUS clock is chosen as the parent for the MCU MBUS clock, and the latter then serves as the parent of the MCU DMA controller's MBUS clock. The bus gate clocks also use their respective bus clocks as parents according to the system bus tree diagram. In cases where a block does not appear in that diagram, an educated guess is made. The main clock controller on the A523/T527 has the NPU's module clock. It was missing from the original submission, likely because that was based on the A523 user manual; the A523 is marketed without the NPU. Also, merge the private header back into the driver code itself. The header only contains a macro containing the total number of clocks. This has to be updated every time a missing clock gets added. Having it in a separate file doesn't help the process. Instead just drop the macro, and thus the header no longer has any reason to exist. Also move the .num value to after the list of clks to make it obvious that it should be updated when new clks are added. The A523's RTC block is backward compatible with the R329's, but it also has a calibration function for its internal oscillator, which would allow it to provide a clock rate closer to the desired 32.768 KHz. This is useful on the Radxa Cubie A5E, which does not have an external 32.768 KHz crystal. Add new compatible-specific data for it. When dual-divider clock support was introduced, the P divider offset was left out of the .recalc_rate readback function. This causes the clock rate to become bogus or even zero (possibly due to the P divider being 1, leading to a divide-by-zero). Fix this by incorporating the P divider offset into the calculation. 2025-07-14clk: sunxi-ng: v3s: Assign the de and tcon clocks to the video pllPaul Kocialkowski
It appears (based on experimentation) that both the de and tcon clocks need to have the same parent for the two units to work together. Assign them both to the video pll by manually clearing the parent selection bits (effectively setting index 0) and marking the clocks with the CLK_SET_RATE_NO_REPARENT flag, which ensures that they will never use a different parent. The video pll is also a possible parent for the camera subsystem, but it can use the dedicated isp pll if needed so there should be no negative side-effect due to this change. Note that ccu_mux_helper_set_parent cannot be used at this stage as it requires the clock driver to be initialized and this configuration is best done before the clock driver is available to consumers. The de clock is marked with CLK_SET_RATE_PARENT, which is really not necessary (as confirmed from experimentation) and significantly restricts flexibility for other clocks using the same parent. There is a PPU0 reset control bit in the same register as the PPU1 reset control. This missing reset control is for the PCK-600 unit in the SoC. Manual tests show that the reset control indeed exists, and if not configured, the system will hang when the PCK-600 registers are accessed. Add a reset entry for it at the end of the existing ones. The MBUS serves as the main data bus for various DMA masters in the system. If its clock is not enabled, the DMA operations will stall, leading to the peripherals stalling or timing out. This has been observed as USB or MMC hosts timing out waiting for transactions when the clock is automatically disabled by the CCF due to it not being used. Mark the clock as critical so that it never gets disabled. The D1/R528/T113 SoCs have a hidden divider of 2 in the MMC mod clocks, just as other recent SoCs. So far we did not describe that, which led to the resulting MMC clock rate to be only half of its intended value. Use a macro that allows to describe a fixed post-divider, to compensate for that divisor. This brings the MMC performance on those SoCs to its expected level, so about 23 MB/s for SD cards, instead of the 11 MB/s measured so far. 2025-05-12clk: sunxi-ng: ccu: add Display Engine 3.3 (DE33) supportRyan Walklin
The DE33 is a newer version of the Allwinner Display Engine IP block, found in the H616, H618, H700 and T507 SoCs. DE2 and DE3 are already supported by the mainline driver. The DE33 in the H616 has mixer0 and writeback units. The clocks and resets required are identical to the H3 and H5 respectively, so use those existing structs for the H616 description. There are two additional 32-bit registers (at offsets 0x24 and 0x28) which require clearing and setting respectively to bring up the hardware. The function of these registers is currently unknown, and the values are taken from the out-of-tree driver. Add the required clock description struct and compatible string to the DE2 driver. When introducing the SUNXI_CCU_MP_DATA_WITH_MUX_GATE_FEAT macro, the order of the last two arguments was different between the users and the definition: features became flags and flags became features. This just didn't end up in a disaster yet because most users ended up passing 0 for both arguments, and other clocks (for the new A523 SoC) are not yet used. Swap the order of the arguments in the definition, so that users stay untouched. The A523/T527 SoCs have clock/reset controls in the PRCM part, like many previous SoCs. For a change, the whole PRCM is documented in the A523 manual, including the system bus tree, so we can describe all those clocks correctly based on that. There layout seems to be derived from the H6 and H616 PRCM CCUs, though there are more clocks, and many clocks have subtly changed. Describe all the mod and gate clocks, including the three bus clocks (R_AHB, R_APB0, and R_APB1). Allwinner SoCs do not contain a separate reset controller, instead the reset lines for the various devices are integrated into the "BGR" (Bus Gate / Reset) registers, for each device group: one for all UARTs, one for all SPI interfaces, and so on. The Allwinner CCU driver also doubles as a reset provider, and since the reset lines are indeed just single bits in those BGR register, we can represent them easily in an array of structs, just containing the register offset and the bit number. Add the location of the reset bits for all devices in the A523/T527 SoCs, using the existing sunxi CCU infrastructure. The Allwinner A523 SoC introduces some new MP-style mod clock, where the second "P" divider is an actual numerical divider value, and not the numbers of bits to shift (1..32 instead of 1,2,4,8). The rest of the clock is the same as the existing MP clock, so enhance the existing code to accommodate for this. Introduce the new CCU feature bit CCU_FEATURE_DUAL_DIV to mark an MP clock as having two dividers, and change the dividing and encoding code to differentiate the two cases. The H616 manual does not state that the GPU PLL supports dynamic frequency configuration, so we must take extra care when changing the frequency. Currently any attempt to do device DVFS on the GPU lead to panfrost various ooops, and GPU hangs. The manual describes the algorithm for changing the PLL frequency, which the CPU PLL notifier code already support, so we reuse that to reparent the GPU clock to GPU1 clock during frequency changes. The H616 user manual recommends to re-parent the CPU clock during frequency changes of the PLL, and recommends PLL_PERI0(1X), which runs at 600 MHz. Also it asks to disable and then re-enable the PLL lock bit, after the factor changes have been applied. Add clock notifiers for the PLL and the CPU mux clock, using the existing notifier callbacks, and tell them to use mux 4 (the PLL_PERI0(1X) source), and bit 29 (the LOCK_ENABLE) bit. The existing code already follows the correct algorithms. Stop force-selecting PLL-MIPI as TCON0 parent, since it breaks video output on Pinebook that uses RGB to eDP bridge. Partially revert commit ca1170b69968 ("clk: sunxi-ng: a64: force select PLL_MIPI in TCON0 mux"), while still leaving CLK_SET_RATE_NO_REPARENT flag set, since we do not want the clock to be reparented. The issue is that apparently different TCON0 outputs require a different clock, or the mux might be selecting the output type. I did an experiment: I manually configured PLL_MIPI and PLL_VIDEO0_2X to the same clock rate and flipped the switch with devmem. Experiment clearly showed that whenever PLL_MIPI is selected as TCON0 clock parent, the video output stops working. Therefore, TCON0 clock parent corresponding to the output type must be assigned in the device tree. While testing the MMC nodes proposed in [1], it was noted that mmc0/1 would fail to initialize, with "mmc: fatal err update clk timeout" in the kernel logs. A closer look at the clock definitions showed that the MMC MPs had the "CLK_SET_RATE_NO_REPARENT" flag set. No reason was given for adding this flag in the first place, and its original purpose is unknown, but it doesn't seem to make sense and results in severe limitations to MMC speeds. Thus, remove this flag from the 3 MMC MPs.
