2026-02-21Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL argumentsLinus Torvalds
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. 2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) 2026-01-30wifi: ath10k: sdio: add missing lock protection in ath10k_sdio_fw_crashed_dump()Ziyi Guo
ath10k_sdio_fw_crashed_dump() calls ath10k_coredump_new() which requires ar->dump_mutex to be held, as indicated by lockdep_assert_held() in that function. However, the SDIO implementation does not acquire this lock, unlike the PCI and SNOC implementations which properly hold the mutex. Additionally, ar->stats.fw_crash_counter is documented as protected by ar->data_lock in core.h, but the SDIO implementation modifies it without holding this spinlock. Add the missing mutex_lock()/mutex_unlock() around the coredump operations, and add spin_lock_bh()/spin_unlock_bh() around the fw_crash_counter increment, following the pattern used in ath10k_pci_fw_dump_work() and ath10k_snoc_fw_crashed_dump(). 2026-01-30wifi: ath10k: fix lock protection in ath10k_wmi_event_peer_sta_ps_state_chg()Ziyi Guo
ath10k_wmi_event_peer_sta_ps_state_chg() uses lockdep_assert_held() to assert that ar->data_lock should be held by the caller, but neither ath10k_wmi_10_2_op_rx() nor ath10k_wmi_10_4_op_rx() acquire this lock before calling this function. The field arsta->peer_ps_state is documented as protected by ar->data_lock in core.h, and other accessors (ath10k_peer_ps_state_disable, ath10k_dbg_sta_read_peer_ps_state) properly acquire this lock. Add spin_lock_bh()/spin_unlock_bh() around the peer_ps_state update, and remove the lockdep_assert_held() to be aligned with new locking, following the pattern used by other WMI event handlers in the driver. Existing tools like myftm use 'legacy' test command API. Similarly to ath11k and ath12k, we want to support raw TLV payload submitted from the test tool. 2025-10-15wifi: ath10k: move recovery check logic into a new workKang Yang
Currently, ath10k has a recovery check logic. It will wait for the last recovery to finish by wait_for_completion_timeout(); But in SDIO scenarios, the recovery function may be invoked from interrupt context, where long blocking waits are undesirable and can lead to system instability. Additionally, Linux’s ordered workqueue processes one task at a time. If a previous recovery is still queued or executing, new triggers are ignored. This prevents accurate tracking of consecutive failures and delays transition to the WEDGED state. To address this, move the recovery check logic into a different workqueue. 2025-09-18wifi: ath10k: Fix connection after GTK rekeyingLoic Poulain
It appears that not all hardware/firmware implementations support group key deletion correctly, which can lead to connection hangs and deauthentication following GTK rekeying (delete and install). To avoid this issue, instead of attempting to delete the key using the special WMI_CIPHER_NONE value, we now replace the key with an invalid (random) value. This behavior has been observed with WCN39xx chipsets. 2025-09-18wifi: ath10k: avoid unnecessary wait for service ready messageBaochen Qiang
Commit e57b7d62a1b2 ("wifi: ath10k: poll service ready message before failing") works around the failure in waiting for the service ready message by active polling. Note the polling is triggered after initial wait timeout, which means that the wait-till-timeout can not be avoided even the message is ready. A possible fix is to do polling once before wait as well, however this can not handle the race that the message arrives right after polling. So the solution is to do periodic polling until timeout. 2025-09-18wifi: ath: Use of_reserved_mem_region_to_resource() for "memory-region"Rob Herring (Arm)
Use the newly added of_reserved_mem_region_to_resource() function to handle "memory-region" properties. The error handling is a bit different for ath10k. "memory-region" is optional, so failed lookup is not an error. But then an error in of_address_to_resource() is treated as an error. However, that distinction is not really important. Either the region is available and usable or it is not. So now, it is just of_reserved_mem_region_to_resource() which is checked for an error. 2025-09-18wifi: ath10k: remove gpio number assignmentArnd Bergmann
The leds-gpio traditionally takes a global gpio number in its platform data, but the number assigned here is not actually such a number but only meant to be used internally to this driver. As part of the kernel-wide cleanup of the old gpiolib interfaces, the 'gpio' number field is going away, so to keep ath10k building, move the assignment into a private structure instead. So set a threshold for consecutive restart failures. If the threshold is exceeded, consider the hardware is unreliable and all ath10k operations should be skipped to avoid system crash. fail_cont_count and pending_recovery are atomic variables, and do not involve complex conditional logic. Therefore, even if recovery check and reconfig complete are executed concurrently, the recovery mechanism will not be broken. Currently, per-radio attributes are set on per-phy basis, i.e., all the radios present in a wiphy will take attributes values sent from user. But each radio in a wiphy can get different values from userspace based on its requirement. To extend support to set per-radio attributes, add support to get radio index from userspace. Add an NL attribute - NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_RADIO_INDEX, to get user specified radio index for which attributes should be changed. Pass this to individual drivers, so that the drivers can use this radio index to change per-radio attributes when necessary. In some scenarios, the firmware may be stopped before the interface is removed, either due to a crash or because the remoteproc (e.g., MPSS) is shut down early during system reboot or shutdown. This leads to a delay during interface teardown, as the driver waits for a vdev delete response that never arrives, eventually timing out. 2025-06-07ath10k: snoc: fix unbalanced IRQ enable in crash recoveryCaleb Connolly
In ath10k_snoc_hif_stop() we skip disabling the IRQs in the crash recovery flow, but we still unconditionally call enable again in ath10k_snoc_hif_start(). We can't check the ATH10K_FLAG_CRASH_FLUSH bit since it is cleared before hif_start() is called, so instead check the ATH10K_SNOC_FLAG_RECOVERY flag and skip enabling the IRQs during crash recovery. This fixes unbalanced IRQ enable splats that happen after recovering from a crash. 2025-04-17wifi: ath10k: Don't use %pK through printkThomas Weißschuh
In the past %pK was preferable to %p as it would not leak raw pointer values into the kernel log. Since commit ad67b74d2469 ("printk: hash addresses printed with %p") the regular %p has been improved to avoid this issue. Furthermore, restricted pointers ("%pK") were never meant to be used through printk(). They can still unintentionally leak raw pointers or acquire sleeping looks in atomic contexts. Switch to the regular pointer formatting which is safer and easier to reason about. There are still a few users of %pK left, but these use it through seq_file, for which its usage is safe. When running 'rmmod ath10k', ath10k_sdio_remove() will free sdio workqueue by destroy_workqueue(). But if CONFIG_INIT_ON_FREE_DEFAULT_ON is set to yes, kernel panic will happen: Call trace: destroy_workqueue+0x1c/0x258 ath10k_sdio_remove+0x84/0x94 sdio_bus_remove+0x50/0x16c device_release_driver_internal+0x188/0x25c device_driver_detach+0x20/0x2c This is because during 'rmmod ath10k', ath10k_sdio_remove() will call ath10k_core_destroy() before destroy_workqueue(). wiphy_dev_release() will finally be called in ath10k_core_destroy(). This function will free struct cfg80211_registered_device *rdev and all its members, including wiphy, dev and the pointer of sdio workqueue. Then the pointer of sdio workqueue will be set to NULL due to CONFIG_INIT_ON_FREE_DEFAULT_ON. After device release, destroy_workqueue() will use NULL pointer then the kernel panic happen. This order matches the error path order in ath10k_sdio_probe(). No work will be queued on sdio workqueue between it is destroyed and ath10k_core_destroy() is called. Based on the call_stack above, the reason is: Only ath10k_sdio_sleep_timer_handler(), ath10k_sdio_hif_tx_sg() and ath10k_sdio_irq_disable() will queue work on sdio workqueue. Sleep timer will be deleted before ath10k_core_destroy() in ath10k_hif_power_down(). ath10k_sdio_irq_disable() only be called in ath10k_hif_stop(). ath10k_core_unregister() will call ath10k_hif_power_down() to stop hif bus, so ath10k_sdio_hif_tx_sg() won't be called anymore.
