2023-03-03Force testing of query jumbling in 027_stream_regress.plMichael Paquier
Coverage of the query jumbling code has always relied on the queries included in the regression tests of pg_stat_statements. This has its limitations, as a lot of query patterns have never really stressed the query jumbling code. The situation got a bit worse since the query jumbling has been added in the backend core code (5fd9dfa), hence new nodes that should be included in the jumbling could easily be missed, resulting in failures in pg_stat_statements or any modules that require query ID computations. Forcing a load of pg_stat_statements in 027_stream_regress.pl ensures that nodes are never missed in the computations, without having to rely on a buildfarm member for this check. Before this commit, the line coverage of queryjumblefuncs.funcs.c was around 48.5%, now up to 94.6% just by running 027_stream_regress.pl. A basic check is added to show that pg_stat_statements reports are generated after the main regression test suite is finished. Discussion: https://postgr.es/m/Y+nD9LN70w+8eaG9@paquier.xyz
2023-02-07Doc: make src/test/*/README match current reality.Tom Lane
Commit c3382a3c3, which moved the implementation of PG_TEST_EXTRA from src/test/Makefile into individual test scripts, broke the directions given in the subdirectory README files about how to run these tests by hand. Update. Also mention wal_consistency_checking in recovery/README --- that omission isn't the fault of c3382a3c3, but it's still an omission.
2022-07-23Doc: update recovery/README.Tom Lane
Commit e2f65f425 added contrib/pg_prewarm to the prerequisites for running the src/test/recovery suite, but did not bother to update the documentation about that.
2021-10-31Doc: improve README files associated with TAP tests.Tom Lane
Rearrange src/test/perl/README so that the first section is more clearly "how to run these tests", and the rest "how to write new tests". Add some basic info there about debugging test failures. Then, add cross-refs to that READNE from other READMEs that describe how to run TAP tests. Per suggestion from Kevin Burke, though this is not his original patch. 2018-08-12Fix bogus loop logic in 013_crash_restart test's pump_until subroutine.Tom Lane
The pump_nb() step might've already received the desired data, so we must check for that at the top of the loop not the bottom. Otherwise, the call to pump() will sit with nothing to do until the timeout elapses. pump_until then falls out with apparent success ... but the timeout has been used up, causing the next call of pump_until to report a timeout failure. I believe this explains the intermittent timeout failures we've seen in the buildfarm ever since this test went in. I was able to reproduce the problem on gaur semi-repeatably, and this appears to fix it. In passing, remove a duplicate assignment, fix one stdin-assignment to look like the rest, and document the test's dependency on test_decoding.
2018-06-19Clarify the README files for the various separate TAP-based test suites.Tom Lane
Explain the difference between "make check" and "make installcheck". Mention the need for --enable-tap-tests (only some of these did so before). Standardize their wording about how to run the tests.
2018-01-23Add installcheck support to more test suitesPeter Eisentraut
Several of the test suites under src/test/ were missing an installcheck target.

2016-02-26Add a test framework for recoveryAlvaro Herrera
This long-awaited framework is an expansion of the existing PostgresNode stuff to support additional features for recovery testing; the recovery tests included in this commit are a starting point that cover some of the recovery features we have. More scripts are expected to be added later.
