2026-02-02selftests: mptcp: connect: cover splice modeGeliang Tang
The "splice" alternate mode for mptcp_connect.sh/.c is available now, this patch adds mptcp_connect_splice.sh to test it in the MPTCP CI by default. Note that this mode is also supported by stable kernel versions, but optimised in this patch series. 2026-01-05selftests: mptcp: Mark xerror and die_perror __noreturnAnkit Khushwaha
Compiler reports potential uses of uninitialized variables in mptcp_connect.c when xerror() is called from failure paths. mptcp_connect.c:1262:11: warning: variable 'raw_addr' is used uninitialized whenever 'if' condition is false [-Wsometimes-uninitialized] xerror() terminates execution by calling exit(), but it is not visible to the compiler & assumes control flow may continue past the call. Annotate xerror() with __noreturn so the compiler can correctly reason about control flow and avoid false-positive uninitialized variable warnings. 2025-10-06selftests: net: unify the Makefile formatsJakub Kicinski
We get a significant number of conflicts between net and net-next because of selftests Makefile changes. People tend to append new test cases at the end of the Makefile when there's no clear sort order. Sort all networking selftests Makefiles, use the following format: VAR_NAME := \ entry1 \ entry2 \ entry3 \ # end of VAR_NAME Some Makefiles are already pretty close to this. 2025-07-21selftests: mptcp: connect: also cover checksumMatthieu Baerts (NGI0)
The checksum mode has been added a while ago, but it is only validated when manually launching mptcp_connect.sh with "-C". The different CIs were then not validating these MPTCP Connect tests with checksum enabled. To make sure they do, add a new test program executing mptcp_connect.sh with the checksum mode. 2025-07-21selftests: mptcp: connect: also cover alt modesMatthieu Baerts (NGI0)
The "mmap" and "sendfile" alternate modes for mptcp_connect.sh/.c are available from the beginning, but only tested when mptcp_connect.sh is manually launched with "-m mmap" or "-m sendfile", not via the kselftests helpers. The MPTCP CI was manually running "mptcp_connect.sh -m mmap", but not "-m sendfile". Plus other CIs, especially the ones validating the stable releases, were not validating these alternate modes. To make sure these modes are validated by these CIs, add two new test programs executing mptcp_connect.sh with the alternate modes. 2025-05-27selftests: net: move wait_local_port_listen to lib.shHangbin Liu
The function wait_local_port_listen() is the only function defined in net_helper.sh. Since some tests source both lib.sh and net_helper.sh, we can simplify the setup by moving wait_local_port_listen() to lib.sh. With this change, net_helper.sh becomes redundant and can be removed. Package build environments like Fedora rpmbuild introduced hardening options (e.g. -pie -Wl,-z,now) by passing a -spec option to CFLAGS and LDFLAGS. mptcp Makefile currently overrides CFLAGS but not LDFLAGS, which leads to a mismatch and build failure, for example: make[1]: *** [../../lib.mk:222: tools/testing/selftests/net/mptcp/mptcp_sockopt] Error 1 /usr/bin/ld: /tmp/ccqyMVdb.o: relocation R_X86_64_32 against `.rodata.str1.8' can not be used when making a PIE object; recompile with -fPIE /usr/bin/ld: failed to set dynamic section sizes: bad value collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status Fixes: cc937dad85ae ("selftests: centralize -D_GNU_SOURCE= to CFLAGS in lib.mk") Signed-off-by: Jan Stancek <jstancek@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Hangbin Liu <liuhangbin@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Matthieu Baerts (NGI0) <matttbe@kernel.org> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/7abc701da9df39c2d6cd15bc3cf9e6cee445cb96.1737621162.git.jstancek@redhat.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>
2024-11-05selftests: net: include lib/sh/*.sh with lib.shMatthieu Baerts (NGI0)
Recently, the net/lib.sh file has been modified to include defer.sh from net/lib/sh/ directory. The Makefile from net/lib has been modified accordingly, but not the ones from the sub-targets using net/lib.sh. Because of that, the new file is not installed as expected when installing the Forwarding, MPTCP, and Netfilter targets, e.g. # make -C tools/testing/selftests TARGETS=net/mptcp install \ INSTALL_PATH=/tmp/kself # cd /tmp/kself/ # ./run_kselftest.sh -c net/mptcp TAP version 13 1..7 # timeout set to 1800 # selftests: net/mptcp: mptcp_connect.sh # ./../lib.sh: line 5: /tmp/kself/net/lib/sh/defer.sh: No such file or directory # (...) This can be fixed simply by adding all the .sh files from net/lib/sh directory to the TEST_INCLUDES variable in the different Makefile's. 2023-05-30selftests: mptcp: connect: skip if MPTCP is not supportedMatthieu Baerts
Selftests are supposed to run on any kernels, including the old ones not supporting MPTCP. A new check is then added to make sure MPTCP is supported. If not, the test stops and is marked as "skipped". Note that this check can also mark the test as failed if 'SELFTESTS_MPTCP_LIB_EXPECT_ALL_FEATURES' env var is set to 1: by doing that, we can make sure a test is not being skipped by mistake. A new shared file is added here to be able to re-used the same check in the different selftests we have. Add a test program that retrieves the three info types: 1. mptcp meta information 2. tcp info for subflow 3. subflow endpoint addresses For all three rudimentary checks are added. 1. Meta information checks that the logical mptcp sequence numbers advance as expected, based on the bytes read (init seq + bytes_received/sent) and the connection state (after close, we should exect 1 extra byte due to FIN). 2. TCP info checks the number of bytes sent/received vs. sums of read/write syscall return values. 3. Subflow endpoint addresses are checked vs. getsockname/getpeername result. Tests for forward compatibility (0-initialisation of output-only fields in mptcp_subflow_data structure) are added as well. 2020-02-20selftests: Install settings files to fix TIMEOUT failuresMichael Ellerman
Commit 852c8cbf34d3 ("selftests/kselftest/runner.sh: Add 45 second timeout per test") added a 45 second timeout for tests, and also added a way for tests to customise the timeout via a settings file. For example the ftrace tests take multiple minutes to run, so they were given longer in commit b43e78f65b1d ("tracing/selftests: Turn off timeout setting"). This works when the tests are run from the source tree. However if the tests are installed with "make -C tools/testing/selftests install", the settings files are not copied into the install directory. When the tests are then run from the install directory the longer timeouts are not applied and the tests timeout incorrectly. So add the settings files to TEST_FILES of the appropriate Makefiles to cause the settings files to be installed using the existing install logic. 2020-01-24mptcp: add basic kselftest for mptcpFlorian Westphal
Add mptcp_connect tool: xmit two files back and forth between two processes, several net namespaces including some adding delays, losses and reordering. Wrapper script tests that data was transmitted without corruption. The "-c" command line option for mptcp_connect.sh is there for debugging: The script will use tcpdump to create one .pcap file per test case, named according to the namespaces, protocols, and connect address in use. For example, the first test case writes the capture to ns1-ns1-MPTCP-MPTCP-10.0.1.1.pcap. The stderr output from tcpdump is printed after the test completes to show tcpdump's "packets dropped by kernel" information. Also check that userspace can't create MPTCP sockets when mptcp.enabled sysctl is off. The "-b" option allows to tune/lower send buffer size. "-m mmap" can be used to test blocking io. Default is non-blocking io using read/write/poll. Will run automatically on "make kselftest". Note that the default timeout of 45 seconds is used even if there is a "settings" changing it to 450. 45 seconds should be enough in most cases but this depends on the machine running the tests. A fix to correctly read the "settings" file has been proposed upstream but not applied yet. It is not blocking the execution of these new tests but it would be nice to have it: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/11204935/ Co-developed-by: Paolo Abeni <pabeni@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Paolo Abeni <pabeni@redhat.com> Co-developed-by: Mat Martineau <mathew.j.martineau@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Mat Martineau <mathew.j.martineau@linux.intel.com> Co-developed-by: Matthieu Baerts <matthieu.baerts@tessares.net> Signed-off-by: Matthieu Baerts <matthieu.baerts@tessares.net> Co-developed-by: Davide Caratti <dcaratti@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Davide Caratti <dcaratti@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Florian Westphal <fw@strlen.de> Signed-off-by: Christoph Paasch <cpaasch@apple.com> Signed-off-by: David S.
